Entry 33 – Front Hubs, Brake Rotors, Stub Axle Assembly

Front Hubs and Stub Axle Carrier

Using a rented electric impact wrench, I removed the hub nuts from all four wheels. On the RH front assembly, I removed the knock off, exposing the castle nut and split pin inside the hub. I pulled the split pin out and removed the castle nut. I was then able to slide the hub and the brake rotor off of the stub axle carrier. I repeated the process for the LH front wheel. Unlike my Healey, I discovered that the wheel studs were actually hex head bolts rather than studs driven into the hub. Therefore, on reassembly, the rotor and hub should be bolted together before sliding onto the stub axle.
