Entry 34 – Front Suspension, Hydraulic Dampers, Coil Springs

Front Suspension Schematic

I devoted more time today to dismantling the front suspension.

Front Dampers

I removed the hydraulic dampers from the LH and RH sides of the front suspension assembly. Removal involved the upper nut and locking nut on the damper at its top. The upper outer washer, rubber buffer and inner washer could then be lifted off the damper shaft. Note that the washers surrounding the rubber buffer are different! The damper is then free at its top mounting. The damper is mounted at its lower end by a bracket bolted to the coil spring seat. The bracket was removed by first bending back the washer locking tabs. Then four 1/2” hex head bolts were removed from the bracket and coil spring seat. Finally, the hydraulic damper and bracket could be pulled out the lower end of the coil spring.
