Entry 43 – Fuel Pump, Exhaust Heat Shields, Fuel Pipe, Pipe Clips, Rubber Grommets, Exhaust Hangers

Exhaust Heat Shields

Not too many things remain to be done to have the Jag completely disassembled. Today I began my work by removing the exhaust heats shields from the undercarriage of the car. The heat shields are in three pieces. The first piece is held in place with 4 hex head bolts. Once the bolts are removed, the front heat shield was lifted away. The intermediate heat shield was secured with two bolts and the rear heat shield was held in place with four bolts.

Fuel Pipes and Clips

Next, I removed the rear petrol feed pipe assembly. I disconnected the petrol line fitting at the floor of the boot. A wentworth brass nut fixes the pipe to the 3/4” nut securing flexible pipe to boot floor. I then popped the pipe out of its securing clips. There were three clips, securing petrol pipe and two edge clips. I then lifted away the rear petrol feed pipe assembly.

This was followed by the removal of the bracket assembly locating the rubber mounting at wheel arch, accomplished with the removal of two bolts and nuts.

I then removed the remaining three exhaust brackets locating the rubber mountings for the silencers. The front bracket is connected to studs attached to the undercarriage, while the rear two are connected by 1/2’ hex head bolts and nuts.

Fuel Pump and Lines

It was then time to remove the fuel pump. I first removed the rubber grommet for the fuel pump wiring to the sender. I then loosened the two nuts on studs into the pump and removed the pump from its body bracket. I then removed the two rubber mounting grommets with metal distance pieces.
