Boot Lid Assembly

My next step was to remove the trunk lid assembly. The lid is supported by two large springs. I removed the four 1/2” hex bolts on each side that secured the lid to the hinges. The lid assembly could then be lifted away from the car.

Several components needed to be removed from the lid. I removed a rubber buffer on each side of the trunk lid. A single stainless steel slotted self-tapping screw secured the buffers to the lid.

Boot Lock

Four hex head bolts were removed from the lock striker on the lid, and then the lock assembly was removed by loosening 4 slotted machine screws.

Then the trunk lid hinge assemblies had to be removed from the LH and RH sides of the car. This was accomplished by pulling the spilt pins from the shaft holding the spring thereby providing access to four 1/2” hex head bolts securing the hinge assemblies to the body.

Jack Mounting

Next I removed the Jack Retaining Clip from the rear bulkhead in the trunk. It was secured with one self-tapping slotted screw. I then removed one plastic covered clip inserted into the trunk spring bracket used to route the wiring for the number plate. This was followed by the removal of the felt in the jack retainer.

The Spare Wheel Assembly

The cover had a clip at the rear of the cover that was riveted to the trunk floor with three aluminum pop rivets. I drilled out the three rivets and removed the small retaining clip. I also removed the Spare Wheel Clamp Assembly at this time.

Boot Lid Seals

The rubber seals around the trunk lid were removed next. They were in two pieces with the joint halfway up each side to the left and right of the trunk. Note the direction of the rubber as it was installed on the lip. I used a heat gun and gradually pulled the seal away from the body.

Doaid you have to or do you know how to retention the boot springs so the boot lid stays open?

I am afraid that I do not know the answer to your question. I would really like the boot lid to open farther and have considered using gas struts. I have not yet explored that possibility.
