Door Trim and Felt

Today I finished dismantling the components of the LH front door. This included removing the outside felt in the window rail. The felt was held in place by four metal clips secured to the door. The felt was positioned 1 1/2ā€ from the LH side of the door frame.

The remains of a rubber seal (it actually just looked like dum-dum flattened out) was removed from the between the top of the door and the LH no draught ventilator.

Then removed the chrome bead at top of the LH front door. The angled end is to the front of the car. The strip was held in place with seven metal clips which were riveted to the body. I drilled out the rivets and kept the clips. Note in the photos the angle of the tips of the clips.

Door Handle and Lock

The next task was to remove the exterior door handle for the LH door. I first removed the nuts and washers on the two #10 handle studs. I then removed the two 5/16ā€ hex head bolts, the circlip holding the locking barrel, and the mounting assembly. A large spring behind the push button was also removed. Finally a clip holding the link to the assembly was detached separating the assembly components.

I then disconnected the remote control and link assembly from the lock assembly by pulling the pin. I could then remove the door lock assembly by removing 4 chrome phillips head screws.

Next I unscrewed 3 slotted screws from the remote control and removed it from the door. The remote control was fixed to the door with three threaded clips as seen in the photo. I then pushed out two rubber buffers from the inner door skin used to cushion the connecting rod for the remote control. Finally I removed the striker for the LH front door lock from the ā€œB/Cā€ post. It was held in place by three chrome flat head machine screws into a captive threaded plate.
