MK2 Lubricants and Fluids

MK2 Lubricants and Fluids

I will summarize the capacities and type of fluids I used in the MK2 as I rebuild the car. Additional detail may be available in the web site entry related to the specific lubricant. For example, the rear axle/differential lubricants are detailed in the rear suspension post: http://valvechatter.us/?p=3826

Rear axle/Differential – 4 ounces of AC Delco Limited Slip Axle Lubricant Additive plus approximately 3 pints (filled until overflow) of Shell Spiral Heavy Duty Gear Oil, SAE 80W-90.

Shell Spirax HD Gear Oil SAE 80W-90

Gearbox/Overdrive Lubrication – The Jaguar MK2 Service Manual indicated that 4-3/4 pints of lubricant should be used (I actually used about 4-1/2 pints – filling until the lubricant began to leak out the fill hole). Mike Gassman, at Gassman Automotive, recommended using Amalie Elixir Full Synthetic GL-5 Gear Lubricant.
